  66. Even Atari UK's Bob Katz was saying the TT wouldn't be around until
  67. Spring 1990, and he's usually on the optimistic side (to say the least).

  70. stock it.  1040s are a bit 'high end' around here.

  87. My friend who works for Atari Norway from time to time is writing a vt100
  88. communication program for Portfolio right now, and he is writing it using
  89. Turbo C on his Atari PC4 and that works great.  If you don't have another
  90. PC I'm sure Turbo C will work on the portfolio too, but you'll need some
  91. extra RAM (at least I think so :-)

  105. In August 1989, I bought GFA BASIC 3.0 (Version 3.05) because I had heard so
  106. many good comments about GFA BASIC 2.0.  But to this date, I still have not
  107. received the final manual (I just have a unedited version that was sold with
  108. the package) and I have found that the program is so full of bugs it is
  109. unusable.  I have since resorted back to using version 2.0.
  110.  
  111. My questions:
  112. 1.      Has anyone else received the final maunal?
  113. 2.      Is version 3.05 exceptionally buggy or just my copy.
  114. 3.      Is version 3.07 any better?
  115.

  145. I too am interested in the designer case idea.  I thought about making a
  146. detachable keyboard, but I couldn't figure out how to do it and keep my
  147. internal drive still accessable.  Any info on how to mount the mother board and
  148. drive in some sort of alternate case would be helpful.  preferably something
  149. that allows it to fit in a smaller case, with the drive slot in front...

  174. The base message concerns mentioning that the TT runs Mac software with the
  175. aid of Mac ROMs, and presumably, Spectre software (since 64K ROMs cannot
  176. handle the differences in the 68030.)
  177.  
  178.         Unfortunately, someone at Atari saw fit to say that the TT ran
  179. Spectre. It doesn't today.
  180.  
  181.         We at Gadgets don't *have* a TT. We can't get one, and we have tried
  182. every possible way we can to get one. The technical data is ... well,
  183. conflicting (not surprising, given its source).
  184.  
  185.         Hence the rumour that the TT runs Mac software, say, from
  186. Atari's press release in Comdex and from Macintosh News, is *completely
  187. false*.
  188. While there are a few machines out there to developers, Atari hasn't seen
  189. fit to grace us with one.
  190.  
  191.         (I'm sorry if I come off as irritated. It hacks me off to be
  192. promised a machine, eternally 2-weeks-mored, never get one, then have Atari
  193. announce that gee, I've already done the software port -- having never
  194. seen the machine! Sheesh!)
  195.  
  196.         I simply don't understand the policy of not getting us a TT; the
  197. Spectre GCR would be a natural to help sell TT's as high powered, low cost
  198. Mac workstations.
  199.  
  200.                 While it's not definite, it is very possible that with
  201. our current schedules, Atari's missed the timeframe within which we could
  202. have "ramped up" on the TT -- even one in an IBM clone case, such as exist,
  203. I wouldn't mind. That'll set the TT/Spectre GCR back even farther.

  205.         If you want to do me a favor, and possibly yourself a favor, drop a
  206. letter (papermail) to Atari asking why they won't help us bring up a TT
  207. version? Every other manufacturer "seeds" software sites for a machine's
  208. rollout and release, and we can sell a *number* of TT's.

  288. What exactly is poolfix?  what versions of Tos need it?
  289. Another question:  I have the program FOLDR100.prg which came with my hard
  290. drive.  I understand that there is a bug in Tos which causes problems when you
  291. have more than 40 folders.  Does this mean open folders, or just total number
  292. of folders?  I haven't noticed any difference in my system's operation between
  293. when I use this in my auto folder and when I don't.  What _exactly_ is the 40
  294. folder bug, how do I find out if I've got it, and what will happen if I don't
  295. use foldr100.prg?  My system is a 1040 with 1 meg, 2 DS drives and 1 Megafile
  296. 30. (I don't know what Tos version.  I bought my ST in 1987.

  322. Give them a little time, but they're trying hard.  The way they're doing
  323. it is like this:

  326. programmer's, writer's, desktop publisher's (etc.) machine.

  328. The Amiga is (let's face it folks) a BETTER games machine, which is now
  329. the same price as an ST and has lots of games software.

  401. Piracy is not going to be prevented by educating the users for the ST
  402. or any other computer.  What will put a damper on piracy is if the
  403. users can respect the software company.  Companies need to support
  404. their products instead of making it hard for someone to get an upgrade
  405. or a working copy of the product should it prove to be defective.  And
  406. copy protection!  Let's discuss THAT!  How many people here have had
  407. programs that they have purchased eventually stop working because of
  408. COPY PROTECTION?  There are some programs out there that are a true
  409. test of drive alignment.

  411. I also would like to say that anyone who is under the impression that
  412. there is more piracy on the ST then other computers OR that ST pirates
  413. are more organized is truly suffering from major delusions.

  430. Could you make an Atari version of LHARC that follows the rules :-)
  431. On my BBS I need to redirect LHARC's output to a file, but since LHARC
  432. does not support >FILE.EXT and since it doesn't support fforce either
  433. (it uses BIOS, NOT GEMDOS) I have a HUGE problem.  The source posted did
  434. not compile at all with Lattice, and I am NO C-freak....  HELP ME !!!!
